The U.S. Senate today approved a bipartisan highway bill that includes an amendment cosponsored by U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, which helps support jobs and businesses in New Hampshire while also returning billions of dollars to the Treasury for deficit reduction.

"It's encouraging that the Senate has voted on a strong bipartisan basis to renew the Export-Import Bank, which helps support American jobs and returns billions to the Treasury for deficit reduction. I'm hopeful that my colleagues in the House will act to renew Ex-Im so that New Hampshire companies continue to have access to this important source of financing," said Ayotte.

The long-term highway bill that passed the Senate today included a bipartisan amendment cosponsored by Ayotte that would renew the Export-Import Bank's charter until September 2019. The amendment is similar to stand-alone legislation Ayotte introduced with Senators Mark Kirk (R-IL) and a bipartisan group of senators. Working with her colleagues, Ayotte previously helped secure a commitment from Senate and House leadership that both chambers of Congress would take up and vote on bipartisan legislation to renew the Export-Import Bank, whose charter expired June 30.

Ayotte has visited and met with employers across New Hampshire - including GE Aviation in Hooksett, New Hampshire Ball Bearings in Laconia, and Seaboard International Forest Products in Nashua - to highlight the successful partnership between the Ex-Im Bank and local suppliers and retailers who have been able to grow their businesses and create more jobs by exporting goods and services overseas. Last December, Ayotte hosted Export-Import Bank Chairman Fred Hochberg in Nashua, where they met with New Hampshire exporters to discuss Ex-Im.
